I wrote The Barren Tree on January 18, 2024

The barren tree I saw,
With a single brown leaf,
Prompted a question to my mom,
“What happened to it?”

Caressing the 5-year-old me, she said,
“It shed its past
And all its burdens
So come spring,
It can rebuild its future
And provide food and shelter
As it is its destiny”

And I thought,
“What a grand idea.
In the new year, like the tree,
I will rebuild a new me.”

And my mom said,
“Just be you in all your glory
And you will reach your destiny”.
