I built the following list of questions approximately 5 years ago. I also believe they ought to be answered at least annually, so one has a holistic picture of their current finances, and course correct if necessary.

  2. What are our expenses?
  3. What liquid assets do we own?
  4. What long-term assets do we own?
  5. What are our current liabilities?
  6. What are our long-term liabilities?
  7. What percentage of our income are we spending on living expenses?
  8. What percentage of our income are we spending on maintaining liabilities?
  9. What percentage of our income are we saving?
  10. What percentage of our income are we investing?
  11. What percentage of our income are we donating?
  12. What does our financial safety net look like?
  13. What is our return on assets?
  14. What is our return on equity?
  15. What opportunities do we see in the short-term that we can take advantage of?
  16. What opportunities do we see in the long-term that we can take advantage of?
  17. What can we do to prepare ourselves to take advantage of these opportunities?
  18. What risks we foresee in the short-term that will affect us financially?
  19. What are the long-term risks we foresee that will affect our financial future?
  20. What can we do today to minimize or eliminate these risks?
