It’s 2029. The Weather app predicted a sunny day with clear skies and 72 degrees, making it a perfect Fall morning. NYC Mayor Jackson McHugh was gearing up to deliver a 28th anniversary speech later at 9:00 AM at the 9/11 Memorial. This year, September 11 is a Tuesday which only takes the already overflowing emotions a notch higher.
It’s 8:25 AM. One PP, the NYPD Headquarters is bustling with officers swarming in and out of the building. A shabbily dressed, frail-looking man appearing to be in his late-60s to early-70s enters One PP. The front-desk sergeant greets him. The old man requests to see Officer Broomfield. The sergeant asks the old man to wait on the bench across from his desk while he gets Officer Broomfield. The old man complies.
At 8:30 AM, Donald Broomfield, well-built and handsome, in his early 30s, walks towards the old man, holding a cup of steaming coffee in his left hand.
He smiles extending his right hand and says, “Hi, I’m Officer Broomfield. Can I help you?”
The old man stands up, and solemnly says, “I’m here to turn myself in.”
“Turn yourself in? What did you do?”
“I cannot tell you.”
Broomfield let out a slight smile before asking, “You cannot tell me?”
“You’ll find out yourself. Take me in now.”
“Sir, I cannot do that. An arrest requires a reason. Why should I arrest you?”
“Because.”
“That’s not a reason. Tell me, because what?”
