4 Free-Writing Strategies to Try

Free-writing is an open-ended, exploratory writing style where you go wherever your writing takes you.

Here are 4 free-writing strategies to try:

  1. Write for 10 minutes where your only rule is to keep writing.
  2. Focus on getting words flowing and developing momentum on a topic.
  3. Refrain from revising, deleting, or reviewing what you have written in the moment. You can do all of that after your 10 minutes of continuous writing.
  4. Most importantly, give yourself permission to be messy in your writing. This can help relieve pressure around getting the “right” ideas out.

In my experience, the best writing comes when you’re having fun writing it. It’s pressure free writing. It doesn’t matter whether it’s good in the beginning. Just write. Let your brain warm-up. Because, once it’s warmed up, and it gets into a rhythm, the writing will come.

Free write till your brain begins working with your heart and starts writing better.
